Poking around other people’s blogs, websites, and forums … I’ve seen a trend of people using Paleo as a diet. While yes. yes it is a great way to loose weight and get in shape, it isn’t something like the South Beach Diet, or Atkins, or Weight Watchers {I won’t even add Jenny Craig in here because well.. have you read one of their pre-packaged food labels.. have you looked at one of those meals?! That’s not a meal..that’s insanity!}

Paleo is more than that, paleo is a lifestyle change. You literally have to re-teach yourself everything you’ve ever thought about food and what is and isn’t good for you.

We’ve all grown up with “whole grains are good for you! More whole wheat” or that “gluten free” is actually gluten free..news flash it’s made of corn 98.9% of the time {so go read that label of gluten free whatever you just bought, if it has no corn, no form of a grain whatsoever… stop … really?.. let me know what is so I can check it out!}

Don’t go into this thinking that you’ll do it for a few months, loose the weight and eat pizza again. That’s already setting yourself up to fail! Do this to make you healthier, to give yourself more energy, to be happier, to know that every single thing you’re eating is what your body needs. Have you ever noticed how sometimes you get sick after eating a big meal? Or you feel like it’s nap time… yeahhhh thats the gluten. Killer huh?

I’ve always had severe stomach problems to the point where they thought I might have IBS, Ulcers, Crohn’s Disease, and a million other things. Since I’ve started this, I haven’t been sick unless I’ve had a little cheat {and let me tell you..sometimes cheating is the kick in the ass you need to realize why you’re doing this..it’s not pretty}

I’ll post another page with what’s normally in my house that’s easy to find, easy to use, easy on the wallet, stuff you don’t have to worry about if you don’t eat it the day you buy it.

And I’m alway around email me, facebook me, pigeon carrier me, whatever works.  Even if you don’t have a question and want to say hi, do it! I’m a total email junkie!

    i gained 70lbs with my first child because I was on wic (women, Infants and Children). while i am endlessly thankful for the much-needed, SUPPLEMENT to our grocery budget, after my husband started learning about the paleo diet, I realized everything the government was giving me was contributing to my weight gain!! beans, grains, milk, cereal…everything but the eggs and vegetable voucher…

    I’m not one of those people who feels ENTITLED to get something from the government, but it makes me just sick to think that lots of women are given this diet by the government assistance programs and they and their child suffer the consequences! i feel so blessed to have stumbled upon the paleo diet- thank god!! Maybe next PREGNANCY, i will maintain a healthy body weight! Keep up the good work!

    I totally agree TJ, we receive WIC as well and it is such a SAD diet! I do redeem the eggs and veggie tickets and occasionally the cheese, but criminy! I just hate that a nutrition program for poor people is so horribly flawed, it almost makes me think *conspiracy*…

    Hi ladies… i am relatively new to the paleo lifestyle. So far i love it! What’s not to love about feeling and looking better with out bloating? I’ve been buying grass fed meat, but it’s becoming alil’ difficult for me to buy this kind of meat on a $45-$60 budget a week. Do you ladies have any suggestions on alternative meat products i can buy? I live in Los Angeles, CA and i usually have to order meat online and have it shipped to me. It’s getting alil’ expensive. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

      Viv,
      If you ‘re on a budget, grass-fed may not be very feisable. While undoubtedly grass fed free range meats are best for you, sometimes you have to go with the next best thing. Pay attention in the grocery stores to the labels on the meat. Choose the ones with the fewest amounts of extras avoid nitrates and salt as much as you can. Also, look online and see if there are any hunter’s forums with people near the LA area. Often times hunters have more food than they can eat, and since hunting season is upon us, a lot of them will be cleaning out their deep freezes to make room for this season’s kills. This may be much more realistic for me since I live in South Dakota, but it’s a thought. Buy larger cuts when you can, then you can cut them down and freeze them. You’ll save more than you would buying several smaller cuts.

    I also get WIC, for my kids, and have noticed the same things. Most of what they offer is crap, and yes, I do feel like a is some kind of conspiracy. Unfortunately, my DH is brainwashed and thinks that it is healthy food and will not let me stop getting it. So I use whatever good stuff I can from it and the rest goes to sit on a shelf collecting dust.

    Thank you so much for your site! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease back in february. I have been on meds ever since and I hadn’t started to feel any real difference since I went paleo a month ago! I have a HUGE sweet tooth so I GREATLY APPRECIATE your recipes!!

    I love your recipes and there are some fantastic ideas here,
    but I’m a bit confused about what you are trying to say here about corn and gluten…
    I don’t think it’s fair to lump corn (as a grain) in with other gluten containing grains, especially when discussing gluten intolerance and the labeling of “Gluten free” is not a trick or scam.

    regards

      Heyy M-
      Thank you! And I do understand what you’re saying. It’s more that a lot of people ( even more so when starting out) have absolutely no tolerance for most kinds of gluten. I know that corn gluten and wheat gluten are two different kinda of gluten but the can wreak the same kind of havoc on ones body. And I more wish that companies would label things as “wheat gluten free”

      A lot of people get part of the way better but eat “gluten free” things that still contain corn or something similar and they don’t fully heal their body.

      I think that after you’ve allowed your body to heal and recover from everything and eat cleanly for a while that its totally fine to try and work some things back into your diet and for some it could be gluten free products that contain corn.

      Anyhoo, sorry that was so long ! Hope all is well :)
      Cheers!
