{I know I know I suck at updating sometimes …. }
I love love love veggies, they go great with everything. Problem is… to buy them fresh every week would be more money than I’ve got budgeted. So, I do what most do and buy frozen { Bonus: They don’t go bad and they’re ready when I need em! }. Of course I do fresh too, but for certain things and staple veggies I buy frozen. I also only buy in-season stuff. So in the fall I buy a lot of fresh stuff because they’re literally half the price than they are now.
But..I’ve couponing *gasp* That’s right folks..couponing. It is seriously saving me some money. Like..I got 4 tubes of toothpaste for $2.00.. or 2 body washes for free. I’d rather stock up and save when things are on sale than buy when I need it. That’s right, I’m going to start a stockpile { Thank you Extreme Couponing on TLC}
And yes you can save and stock up on things and be Paleo and be on a budget.
Here’s my frozen veggie story:
Lucky me spotted a coupon for $0.75 off of 3 bags of Birds Eye Steam Fresh Veggies {from coupons.com }, my store doubled that coupon and they were on sale for $1.00/bag. Ended up being $0.50 per a freaking bag.
Oh yea, I stocked up {9 bags of veggies later…I can barley see in my freezer between those and the extra meat}.
I made a bag of broccoli that night. 4.5 minutes in my microwave and it was amazing. No work, no clean up, cheaper than fresh. My kinda deal {and easy…we all know how lazy I am!}
{By the way, normally for a bag of veggies {same size} I pay $1.29 for store brand…that’s a $0.79 savings}
So this week I see a similar deal for Green Giant { from the Green Giant website}, I get all excited, head to the store…find said veggies … turn the box over to read ingredients, and there is baking soda in their broccoli. WTF? Who the heck does that. Needless to say I didn’t buy it. I’m just happy I read the back of the box.
This teaches us two things.
A.) You really need to use coupons and walk away with 9 bags of veggies for dirt cheap when they’re on sale. You’ll save money in the long run.
B.) READ the ingredients. Just because it says its Veggies, doesn’t mean that is the only thing in them. It’s not worth it for added ingredients. Just buy expensive ones instead.
And don’t be embarrassed to use coupons … some people are and I have no idea why. Get out there and use them! Save yourself some money!

{and yes I know most of the stuff isn’t paleo… but we all use toilet paper and paper towels..and body wash.. I don’t even want to think about how much I spend on that stuff}
On a side and random note… I did something craptastic to my ankle..so yoga is on hold for me for a few more days {want the swelling to go away first..} which makes me sad because I was starting to see some progress..ugg FML. </rant>
Great post! It is nice to know others out there stockpile on things when there are crazy good sales!
