You heard right… Sweet Potato Chili… It’s my newest best thing ever {well… until you get the new dessert recipe}. But apparently I’m not the only chili addict around these parts considering the vote was a landslide in favor of the new chili recipe!
This is another easy chili recipe… It’s in the middle of the other two I have posted. It’s a stove top one that needs a few hours to sit on low {you could of course use the crock pot… but I hate cleaning it… with a passion, so a pot is way easier for me!}. And of course as always, add whatever you want in here. This is JUST a method. You can do whatever you want to it… add in whatever veggies you’ve got on hand or switch it up so it’s your favorite meats in there { I used what I had in freezer… I hate buying special for recipes…so I don’t lmao!}.
And because I don’t buy special for this… all the stuff that goes in it is always on hand… so umm it’s wicked cheap. Like the frozen sausages and meat I just buy on dirt cheap sale. This chili which was probably two-three meals for two people cost me $6.00{ish} to make!
Okies here’s the recipe!

- • 1 medium Sweet Potato {diced into bite sized pieces}
- • 1lb ground pork
- • 6oz Frozen Sausage {or whatever sausage you have on hand}
- • 1 Big can crushed tomatoes
- • 1 14oz can diced tomatoes
- • 1/3 Big Bag Frozen Green Beans
- • 1 Large Onion, Diced {I did a big dice}
- • 3 Carrots, Peeled + Diced
- • Seasoning: 3 Tbsp Cumin, 5 Tbsp Chili Powder, 2 Tbsp Dried Basil & Oregano, 1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning, 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder + Red Pepper Flakes
- • 4 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- • Salt + Pepper
- • KerryGold Butter
- In a big pot get some butter all melted. Toss in your onions and carrots, let them start to cook and soften.
- While that’s going on dice up your sweet potato {I kept the skin on} and toss that in. Same with the sausages.
- Once those are all happy together you can add in your pork. Then all of your spices, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Salt + Pepper go in. Stir it all together {you want everything coated in the spices and herbs}.
- Then… Then… add in your tomato products and then your frozen green beans {if they’re the whole green beans try to snap them in half as you put them in so they’re more bite sized}.
- One more big Stir, cover… put it on low.. forget about it for a few hours.
- Boom, it’s done…. I serve mine w/ Homemade mayo. It’s just wicked yummy that way. You could also drizzle some EVOO on it for an additional boost of fat!
And AND don’t forget to sign up for the Webinar… it’s next Tuesday {8/28}. I’ll be on the call with my friends Jeff + Sam. Here’s the blog post with the details. {I am so excited to do it! It’s gonna be a blast!}
I made this tonight and it was great!Thanks for the recipe!
Your welcome! Happy to hear you liked it!!!
Thats a lot chili powder.
It makes a ton of chili! But if you’re not a fan of chili powder feel free to leave out a tbsp or so 🙂 You can always add more in at the end if it needs it!
I have this simmering on the stove for dinner tonight…can’t wait! Just discovered your blog and can’t wait to make more recipes. 🙂
Kati yay! Welcome 🙂
There is a lot of cumin. Is that right 3 tablespoon.
Heyy Ana! Yes but I love cumin {like adore it} so feel free to use 1.5-2 tablespoons instead! It’ll still be yummy 🙂
I’m just a single person and prefer to cook just 1-2 servings at a time…hard with all these big servings (I can’t store it, poor student here)…and can you actually write out:
serving size:
(when you print out the entire recipe, give # of servings so it’s clearly seeen?
If you’ve never heard of reynold’s slow cooker liners, they’re worth every. single. penny.
I use the crock pot 3-4x/wk.. and it’s just the two of us. the liner sweats through and sometimes drips a tad, but that’s a quick sudsy scrub, and onto the drying mat it goes. We more often than not pick the whole liner up out of the bag and put it into a Tupperware. Makes for easy tupperware clean up, too. 🙂
Life changing, for sure.
OBSESSED with this recipe! It is so good, it has made it into our weekly rotation, even in the hot summer weather – it’s THAT good!! Used less chili powder (but my husband always adds more – he loves the heat), added a minced garlic clove and have been substituting whatever ground meat i have on hand – used ground beef with some pork sausage this go around and it just keeps getting better!! An amazing recipe that is hearty and fits our budget! THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Eating this for breakfast right now, except I was even MORE lazy and just threw all these ingredients in the crockpot on low for ~10hrs. Used about 4oz raw bacon in place of the sausage link, and added some swiss chard for some greens. It barely all fit in my crock! Anyway, it’s delicious and probably only cost me about 6-7$ for the whole thing.
Jill… This makes about three servings, if eaten alone. I plan on eating the whole thing today throughout breakfast, lunch and dinner. 🙂 That’d be about 1300 calories. I’ll probably munch on nuts between meals for some extra calories, or top it with an ounce or two of melted cheese. Mmmmmm!
Thanks for the recipe!!!!
Could you cook this in crockpot? How long?
Heyy Lindsey! You absolutley could 🙂 I’d suggest cooking it on low for 4-6 hours or on high for around 4hours{ish}!
How much butter do you use in this? What size is the package you used?
Heyy Erik! I used probably a tablespoon or so — but really it’s up to you! If you need some extra fat in your diet, then add as much as you’d like in!
I was trying to find some decent paleo meal that I could make in bulk and decided to give this recipe a try, despite not having any type of experience making chili. I LOVED this recipe! I need to alter the cayenne since I put 5 tbsp the first time and set my mouth on fire but despite being extra spicy it was still so good. and I was kind of missing a few ingredients that weren’t completely vital but it came out amazing and was sooo good. It’s a great paleo meal for meal prep thanks so much I can’t wait to try your other recipes!
This is my all time favorite chili. I just prepped some for the slow cooker for tomorrow
I made this chili when i was living in new york for the summer for an internship. I was so broke but i really wanted to eat healthy and clean, and really struggled with finding recipes that made me full. I made this late one night and it turned out amazing! its by far my favorite paleo batch dish to make and whats even better is that i can make a lot to last a week. Thank you so much! I can’t say enough how much this is so delicious and i’ve been trying to find other paleo recipes that allow me to cook in a batch but this one has got to be the best one. The chili came out so flavorful and everybody thats tried it has loved it. keep up the greatness!
