Tonight I’m giving myself a night off — I’m using the phrase “night off” loosely, very, very loosely. By night off I mean I’m only answering business emails and prepping for tomorrow’s wedding. Why ? Because I’ve been so looking forward to doing this post and we’ve finally sat down to do it!!
Some of you may remember our very own “Mr. Not So Paleo” has gone from “Not So Paleo” to full time, 100% Paleo. He’s been 100% for about a month now… and he has seem some really, really awesome results. No more random stomach aches, he doesn’t get so hungry he gets light headed, no more random cravings directly after a meal, whatever acne he had is gone, he’s shed some excess weight AND gained muscle {without even trying that hard}.
The biggest thing I’ve noticed? He’s sleeping better — he doesn’t toss and turn a million times and he seems to wake up more alert than he used to!
The best part? These results were with him already being “half-paleo”. I mean come on — how cool is that? I don’t know if I expected him to feel this good by going 100% because he’d already done this half-paleo business for over two years. So hopefully if you’re on the fence about being paleo or not this will help sway your vote towards the cool-kid-club 😉
Okay so here are the answers to the questions you guys left for him on the original post!
{just a note: he’s giving me his answer verbally and I’m typing it out for him!}
• Liz asks: My husband is definitely Mr. Not So Paleo. WHAT was it that finally changed your attitude about it and start doing it? Any tips for others in your situation (FTR I don’t nag or anything, I have accepted that this is the way of things……..but a girl can dream!).
Mr. POAB: Our job requires us to be pretty on top of our game health wise all the time and I couldn’t continue to feel sluggish. I’m also not a teenager any more and sadly, can’t bounce back from crappy food like I used too so I decided it was a good idea. Plus — most of the paleo foods were a lot better tasting than the other food options out there for me {like frozen breaded chicken, ramen noodles, etc}. My biggest tip would be not to force someone to be paleo, let them find out what there missing on their own and over time when you compare a paleo meal to a non-paleo meal, it’ll pretty obvious what makes you feel better {health and energy wise}.
• Linda asks: Since you guys have been so kind as to invite some questions, I wanted to take the opportunity to ask if he jumped feet first or if he slowly took grains out that he was used to having in his diet? I really want to convert to a completely Paleo diet but our family of 4 is not all on board so Im trying to see what different approaches work for people.
Mr. POAB: I had been doing half and half paleo for a long time {since Liz started over two years ago}, but ultimately when I made the complete switch I jumped in feet first!
• Lisa asks: What was the final selling point, the A-HA moment, that made you move to the Paleo side?
Mr. POAB: I had one too many pizzas and was feeling like I was having a hard time breathing and functioning after — it made me realize I couldn’t keep going this way and I had to make the switch.
• Austin asks: I kind of have a question for both of ya’ll. Liz, how did feel living with someone not paleo? Did their future health concerns ever stress you out? Mr. POAB, what made you finally pull the trigger and switch. Also, how did you feel living with a die hard paleo?
Mr. POAB: It just hit me, I felt like the time was right I guess and the grains and crappy food {like fast food} were weighing me down. It had gotten to a point where it was impossible to ignore that I wasn’t feeling as good as I should, and I knew I wasn’t as healthy as I should be. And I didn’t want to know that I was hindering myself that much when I could easily change over {especially living with someone who is Paleo} to being paleo and the meals were going to be even better. And about living with a die hard paleo: It’s nice {then and now} living with someone who takes their nutritional choices so seriously.
Liz’s Answer: Heyy Austin!!! Living with someone not very paleo was tricky, but totally do-able. It took a few months to find our balance of what was served with what and what meals we both liked and what we disagreed on, but after that I think it was pretty easy. And yes from time to time I did get a little stressed over his health — more so when he’d eat a lot of grains and feel sluggish and stuff. It’s totally a nice feeling knowing that’s one less thing to worry about 🙂
Thank you to everyone who submitted questions!! That was actually wicked fun and I think even Mr. POAB enjoyed it 🙂
Did we miss a question, still have questions for him? Think of some new ones? Leave a comment below and we can do another “ask Mr. POAB session” soon!!
