Or it could be a Mrs. Not So Paleo, either way. I haven’t done a blog post yet about living with someone who isn’t paleo. I figured I’d do a few different posts on the topic, but this one will give an over view to it all!
My Mr. Not So Paleo is epic and amazing. He 100% Supports me being paleo but we’ve talked a lot about it, and what he likes that I make and what he doesn’t and what non-paleo things he enjoys. I do think that’s the key to having a happy Paleo and Non Paleo house. If you can sit down together and make a list of your favorite paleo meals and the family’s favorite non-paleo meals, you can find a way to blend them. If someone’s favorite meal is lasagna, it’s really easy to make a big one for the family and then in a smaller dish do something similar for yourself with pieces of eggplant or zucchini instead of noodles.
Pasta a family favorite? No problem, make the sauce paleo with lots of meat and veggies, and make yourself some green beans as noddles or zucchini noodles {If you use green beans you can get the steam fresh bags which will make clean up and cooking them a breeze!}. You and you’re Mr. Not So Paleo + Family don’t have to feel like one side is missing out on their favorites because of the different eating habits, and as time goes yon you might notice them getting more and more Paleo.
Here’s a great example meal of how I make Non-Paleo and Paleo Work.
Mr. Not So Paleo’s Meal:
-Burgers on English Muffins topped with caramelized onions and mushrooms, cheese, avocado, homemade mayo and ketchup and carrot fries
My Paleo Meal:
– Burgers with avocado & caramelized onions and mushrooms on the side with carrot fries and mayo on the side.
It might look like three burgers on English muffins is a lot for one dinner… but I made him the three on the off chance he was hungry enough for them, but he wasn’t so I was able to give it to him for breakfast with a few eggs. We also ended up having two burgers left over {not shown} so I was able to have those with eggs the next morning for breakfast!
If you have specific questions on your Mr. Not So Paleo {and family} leave a comment here and I promise to answer them in the upcoming blog posts 😀
It’s been tough getting H to tell me what he likes & doesn’t like. People can be very childish when it comes to changing their eating habits, to the point that you think you’ve just told a 3 year-old they can’t have a cookie, instead of asking a 23 year-old if they want bread at the store! It’s taken time, but adding rice on the side or doing a mix of regular potatoes and sweet potatoes in a stew has made it a bit easier, especially since he has no interest or need to go low carb.
