Oh man could it be spring already, I mean seriously… I’ve been waiting almost 2 months for it! Ha it’s here, finally… The trees almost have leaves.. woohooo!!!!
{I bought my Yiayia Flowers on Sunday…which made me think of this post.. they were so stinking pretty…. they were tiny pink roses!}
Ok so now that you know NH is finally freaking getting spring…{oh yeah you know the randomness of this blog rocks}
Spring = things growing = time to start thinking about planting a garden {and/or farmers markets!}
Farmers Markets…make me happy!
I know going to a farmers market can get a little pricey but If you budget right and keep yourself stocked up you can afford a few of the nicer summer veggies. Also the farmers markets are a great place to just walk around and meet people! They even have fresh flowers and other random-like things. Seriuosly GO TO ONE! You might find eggs there for right about what you’re paying now, and you know they’re going to be a zillion times fresher so why wouldn’t you just buy from them? Plus chances are they actually have eggs year round and you might be able to work out getting them year round from them! Also if you live next door {or almost} to a farm… and you haven’t made friends Whattheheckiswrongwithyou! Go now, stop reading this entry..run over there make friends. Be social! Then tell all your friends about ’em. Trust me on this one!
Same thing with grass fed beef…
Start researching now, some farms want you to start putting orders in now, some have it year round… just depends on your area. I’ve found 3 farms all within the same price range {which is still out of my price range, but it’s nice having a goal to work towards!} Eatwild.com is a great resource to find farms in your area!
Then…planting..
Ugg, why can’t I have a green thumb? I’ve got a freaking plant – killing thumb {my Mum however..rocks at the gardening thing..}!
But if you aren’t challenged like me.. PLANT! I mean fresh herbs, home grown tomatoes {Which you could can and have paleo-goodness year round!}, and if you’ve got room so many other things… {oh yeah…home grown butternut squash yummy!}. And don’t give me the I live in an apartment excuse! I live in one too.. and well had I actually had a green thumb would have enjoyed basil and rosemary last summer!
So a little bit of your time, research, and walking around {which should = exercise right?} = easier on your wallet! Don’t just settle for the craptastic stuff your grocery store has if you don’t have too!
So thats my take on Spring! Awesomeness before things get so hot I get cranky…. thank goodness for the beach !
