I’ve been thinking about this post a lot since I re-organized my kitchen… and how much it actually affects your daily life. I have tiny kitchen. It’s a wonder Primal Puggle and I fit in there together sometimes. So I have to make my kitchen as efficient as possible in order to maximize not only the space but also my work flow. I know work flow in a kitchen might sound weird, but seriously think about how much time and money you could be wasting because you’re not setting yourself up ahead of time to win.
Here’s a great example: I have limited counter space so my olive oil containers are always taking up too much space. I found a container on clearance for $2.30 at Target. Not only has it given me some extra space, it looks pretty {and when things look stream line and pretty in your kitchen you’re going to be happier = better food}, but it’s a slow pouring container. so my mayos aren’t breaking {yes no matter how epic you are at making mayo you’ll still occasionally break them 🙂 }. Therefore saving me time, space, and money {Because I’m not making one or two mayos because I broke one or almost broke one}. I also keep my spices and my dishes where I use them the most, giving me the most use of my space. I even leave a few mixing bowls {that fit in each other} and my cutting boards on the counter in the corner for quick and easy access.
Take a look around your kitchen, look at where you have the dishes your silverware, your spices, etc. Is it not working for you? Are your plates and silverware on the opposite side of where you normally serve up your food? Even look at your fridge… is the stuff that should be on the door way in the back on a shelf? I keep all of the non paleo stuff in a less easy to access area of my fridge because it’s not used as frequently as the paleo stuff. Really break down your kitchen, spend an hour re-organizing it and making the most out of your space. You’d be surprised how much time {and possibly money} you’re loosing because you didn’t know you had x in your cabinet or you couldn’t work as efficiently as you can now that you’ve made it fit you.
So go forth! Make friends with your kitchen again!
