Have you seen the commercials for those new “Flavor Boosts” of Stock.. I’m using the word stock loosely here because I’m guessing it’s more soy, crap, and more crap but anyhoo, it gave me a thought. Well several… and the first was to laugh, the second was to shake my head and then the third was thinking about how I boost “flavor” in my food currently.
My mayo stuck out the most honestly. I mean think of it…you use mayo for a dip or to smother a burger in or to make a chicken or egg salad. Now if you make just everyday plain mayo, you’re yes going to get some great flavor, but… what about adding something to it? When I make mayo to go with burgers I think about what I’m using with the burger and spice my mayo to compliment it. Sometimes it’ll be the exact same spice, other times a different one. Last night I made Rosemary Burgers and added some basil into my mayo so it rounded out the flavors and gave a great base for the burger. If you make sweet potato fries, adding a hint of rosemary and cumin into your mayo will give you a really well balanced flavor {it’s even good on grilled chicken like that }.
EGGS NEED SEASONING. When you scramble those suckers make sure you’re using a few shakes of something in it. You won’t get as bored with food if you’re constantly changing up your spices in it. Garlic, herbs, spices, even hot sauce are great ways to make a quick and easy meal go from blah to wow lets make this again! And don’t be afraid to over season. 9 times out of 10 people are terrified to over season something. DON’T you won’t… unless it’s salt or pepper flakes… Give it a go, double up your spices go to town, even start slow if you want and add a smidge bit extra than normal… then add from there until you’re all doing a happy dance in your kitchen because it rocks.
I even season Mr. Not So Paleo’s Turkey sandwhiches with Salt, Pepper, and a few sprinkles of dried basil. The basil and the turkey work really nicely together with fresh tomatoes!
Even in your burgers, Toss in a bit of dried Basil or thyme ontop of your salt + Pepper. And you’ll notice that le flavor boost took you all of 20 extra seconds.
So moral of my ramble? Dried herbs and spices are cheap { When you break down serving / bottle.. it comes to what less than 10 cents per? } and add so much flavor to your food that you’re not going to feel like you’re on a budget!
Go forth and season {your food…. I don’t know what else you could season.. but just to clarify just in case}!
